Outdoor living space continues to be a priority for today's homeowners. While many people immediately think of the backyard for outdoor entertaining, we encourage you to look towards the front yard and imagine yourself lounging on a front porch.
We've had the opportunity to design and build a number of custom homes over the years that feature porches, and they all offer their own unique flavor. To see some examples of custom homes with porches that we have completed, please be sure to check out our online portfolio.
Since the front porch has become such a desirable feature in custom home design, let's take a moment to touch on some of the latest front porch living trends in Central Florida to offer some inspiration for your own home:
Wrap-Around Front Porch
The wrap-around front porch has been a favorite design for decades and was frequently used in Craftsman-era homes. This porch style can encircle the entire home or extend into an area beyond the front of the home. Not only does a wrap-around front porch create an additional point of architectural interest to a home, but it also provides the ideal space for an outdoor privacy nook.
Rocking Chair Front Porch
Sometimes you don't need an elaborate front porch--you simply want a place to put your rocking chairs. Custom homes that feature these smaller front porch designs often use a premium quality material such as flagstone to lead up to the porch. Ceiling fans are strategically added above to provide for maximum comfort.
No-Curb Front Porch
Considering the number of aging baby boomers that want custom homes with front porches, the no-curb front porch has become a desirable trend. This style of front porch is tucked into the home with a roofline that extends from the home, creating a seamlessly blended look. Because there is no curb or step up required to enter the porch, this type of porch is wheelchair accessible.
Double Front Porches
The double front porch has become a Southern living staple and is ideal for taking in expansive views. Double front porches have two symmetrical floors with columns and usually feature straight or curved spindles which give the home a classic, distinctive look. An idea for a home that features double front porches is to screen one of the porches in to keep bugs out and provide more privacy.
