 While it's hard to believe, the year is quickly coming to a close. Many of us are already thinking of 2016 and what the new year will bring. For those of us in the custom homes industry, we're taking a close look at design trends for the coming year. Here are 5 custom home design trends that we can expect to see in 2016:  Having completed more than 500 home building/remodeling projects in Central Florida, we've seen a lot of design trends come and go. One of the latest home remodeling trends that clients have asked us about is shiplap siding used as an interior wall treatment. If you've perused through any recent home design magazines or browsed through Houzz, it's hard to miss this design feature.  Each year more and more people are choosing to make green friendly enhancements to their homes to reduce costs and allow them to run more efficiently. Such upgrades include the installation of Energy Star appliances, tankless hot water heaters, and new windows. Fortunately, when you're starting the custom home building process, you have a leg up on your peers as you can choose to go green from the start.  More than 3,000 years ago, the Chinese developed a system of laws to govern spatial arrangement and orientation in regards to the flow of energy and used this philosophy when designing buildings. This ancient art and science is known as feng shui, and the idea behind it is balancing the energies in a space to offer health and good fortune to anyone inhabiting it. |
