Faux Wood Flooring
Flooring trends come and go, but real hardwood floors are always in style, resilient, and stand up to the test of time. Over the last decade, we’ve seen a recurring trend of homeowners attempting their own version of wood floors by installing a cheap alternative. First, it was vinyl, now it’s tile. Don’t get us wrong, if you prefer wood looking tile over the real thing, we support you. But we don’t recommend you tackle it yourself.
There are two innate problems with going the DIY route on your wood-looking flooring. First, trends don’t last forever. So before you go for that rustic white-washed faux wood tile, remember that amending this style choice will be difficult and time-consuming. And, before you begin installing it yourself bear in mind that your flooring takes a lot of wear and tear. We see frequently that faux wood vinyl that is inexpensive and installed improperly simply doesn’t last.
Painted Cabinets
So, you saw on TV how easy it is to repaint your tired old cabinets? This is a very common mistake. Unless you have a professional painter in the family you’re more than likely going to end up with a good effort and a less than perfect finished product. Painting cabinets so they look like the ones you love in the showroom is a skill and the finish you love is difficult to achieve as an amateur.
While a new coat of paint seems to be the answer to your cabinet woes, more than likely you’ll end up with old cabinets and a non-professional paint job. Save yourself some hassle and invest in high-quality cabinets that won't need to be repainted again every other year.
